December Youth Service Project

Our service project for the month of December is “Shoeboxes of Love” for the elderly in our community. They are called “shoebox” projects because the gift must fit in a shoebox. Possible gifts for project: scarves, mittens/gloves, perfume/cologne, bath products, watch, stationary sets, books/magazines, slippers, or lap/fleece blankets. If you have any other ideas on gifts that the elderly would like you can bring that.

Please bring all items on Dec. 7th (JH) or Dec. 9th (HS). We will also need good shoeboxes and wrapping paper if you can bring those. We would like to wrap the gifts wither at CCE class the following week or on Wed. Dec. 16th at our youth social.

Questions? Call Bridget in the parish office (979-826-2275).

From the Pastor’s Desk – First Sunday of Advent

My dear people of God.

Today we begin the Advent Season and the New Liturgical Year. The Church assists us to constantly refocus our attention to the very important event of Christ’s coming into the world.

We are no different than those who lived in the Old Testament time. People were waiting for the coming of Christ, the Messiah and longed for His deliverance. We also must rediscover this Messiah in our lives. Each of us has probably experienced a Conversion period in our lives. That type of religious experience is a turning point in our spiritual life. However year after year we are reminded to turn back to Christ.

As a people of God each of us commits ourselves back to our God. Just as Israel looked for and anticipated the coming of Jesus Christ, so also do we enter more deeply into preparation for Jesus ‘coming. He is here among us waiting for each of us to turn more intently to Him.

Let us prepare a way for the Lord. May God bless you.
