2012 Education Contest

Contest is open to all students 4th- 12th grade.
The categories include art, essay, poetry, computer art, music and photography.

Rules and entry form will be available at the St. Katharine Drexel Church office, from any Catholic Daughter member or at the back of the Church.

Deadline for entries is February 15, 2012

Number of priests stays stable as Catholic population grows
A Priest Projection Study completed by the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate showed that the number of priests available for parish service in the Archdiocese will remain relatively stable over the next 10 years. The challenge: the Catholic population will grow significantly over the same 10 years. See graphs and charts explaining these Archdiocesan changes at www.archgh.org/pastoralplan/documents. Catholic beliefs and traditions: Important to pass along
During the first phase of the Archdiocese Pastoral Planning Process, over 7,000 participants in both parish listening sessions and surveys responded that “Catholic Beliefs and Traditions” were important to pass on to the next generation. Souper Bowl of Caring / Tazón de Cariño

Many people won’t forget that February 5, 2012 is Super Bowl Sunday. Many of us are already thinking of the big game, the teams, the friends we will be with, and all the food we will be enjoying. However, there are many people who not only are out of a place to sleep but may are also in need of something to eat. Won’t you please support the youth of our parish as they try to do what they can to help those in our area in need of food? On the weekend of February 4th & 5th young people will be outside after all masses collecting for the Souper Bowl of Caring. Please support them by giving what you can. All money raised will be going to Loaves & Fishes Soup Kitchen, a Catholic food pantry in downtown Houston.

Mucha gente no se olvidará que el domingo 5 de febrero es el Súper Bowl. Muchos de nosotros ya estamos pensando en el juego grande, en los equipos, en los amigos con quien vamos disfrutar el juego, y en todo el alimento en que vamos disfrutar. Pero hay mucha gente que no tienen un lugar para dormir y también necesitan algo para comer. ¿Por favor puedes ayudar a los jóvenes de nuestra parroquia a tratar de hacer lo que puedan para ayudar a las personas en nuestra área que necesitan alimento? En el fin de semana del 4 y 5 de Febrero los jóvenes estarán afuera después de cada misa con barras de granolas para colectar dinero para el Tazón de Cariño. Por favor da lo que puedas. Todo el dinero colectado se va a la Cocina de Sopa de los Panes & Pescados, una despensa de alimentos católica en Houston.

AYC Meeting

A reminder for all high school youth wanting more information about our annual Archdiocesan Youth Conference in July. We will be having a meeting this Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 6:15pm in the youth room before HS CCE. Even though July seems a long way away we need to plan several fundraisers to off-set the conference expense. Come to find out more about the conference, to watch a promo video, and to help plan fundraisers. The Archdiocesan Youth Conference is open to all incoming 9th graders and all newly grated seniors of 2012 and all grades in between. Parents are welcome to attend too.

Reunión Para Información en la Conferencia Archidiocesana de Jovenes

Vamos a tener una reunión para jóvenes que desean más información sobre nuestra Conferencia Anual de Jóvenes de nuestra Arquidiócesis de Jóvenes en Julio. Esta reunión será este miércoles, el 25 de Enero 2012 a las 6:15pm en el cuarto de los jóvenes antes de las clases de catecismo. Aunque el mes de Julio parezca muy lejos nosotros debemos planear varias recaudaciones de fondos para compensar el costo de la conferencia. Venga aprender más de la conferencia, para mirar un video de promoción, y para ayudar a planear las recaudaciones de fondos. La Conferencia de jóvenes de la Arquidiócesis está abierta a todos jóvenes entrando al grado nueve y todos graduando en el año 2012 y todos grados en medio. Invitamos los padres a venir también si quieren.

Adult Faith Formation / Formación de Fe para Adulto

Adult Faith Formation invites you to start 2012 with a renewed faith by attending a six week video class on CATHOLICISM. There will be two different dates and times that will hopefully meet your needs. The Thursday class will begin On January 26th at 7:00pm and the Sunday classes will begin on January 29 at 10:30 am.

El grupo de Formación de Fe para Adulto le invita a comenzar el 2012 con una Fe renovada atendiendo a seis semanas de clases de video del CATOLICISMO. Habrá dos diferentes fechas y horarios que esperamos que se ajuste a sus necesidades. La clase del jueves comenzara en Enero 26 a las 7:00pm y La clase del domingo comenzara en Enero 29 a las 10:30am.
